Weekend alternatives: The Patio at The Embers Hotel

By David Rogers. BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — When Steve Barker and his wife owned the cottage where The Embers Hotel now sits, they treasured their weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle that was Charlotte.

“It was very relaxing,” said Barker, “to just sit outside on the patio overlooking Yonahlossee Road and have our coffee in the morning. In the evening, we would enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese or fruit board. Those moments of just melting back into our chairs, chit-chatting about the day’s events — and maybe even sometimes solving the world’s problems! — they are among our favorite experiences. Blowing Rock is such a beautiful slice of North Carolina heaven.”

The public at large now experience what the Barkers used to have to themselves. Barker is a principal of The Catellus Group, the developer of The Embers Hotel, which weaves a “Patio Experience” into the property on the weekends for both hotel guests as well as anyone who wishes to venture in. Customers can have their pick of favorite wines and take advantage of a special food menu.

The Patio is typically open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., but on Saturday, April 21, The Embers will present “Hearth Melodies,” featuring musical guest Will Easter for live music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sitting outside on the Patio, overlooking downtown Blowing Rock… few places in town rival the ambiance and the experience.
