Burroughs, Buchanan, relay teams lead Watauga in 3-state Trojan Timing Classic

By David Rogers. BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — With 47 schools from three different states (North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee) competing in the 44th Annual Trojan Timing Classic, earning a spot in the “top 10” of a track and field event is a major accomplishment. Getting into the top five or even winning? That puts the student athlete on a different level.

Top Highlights for Watauga:

  • Sadie Buchanan was a double winner for the Pioneers, taking No. 1 in both the 100 Meter Hurdles and the 300 Meter Hurdles.
  • The Watauga men’s 4×200 Relay team of Lade Oguntoyinbo, Jakob Crosswell, Kees Greene, and Nyle Pays were No. 1, with a winning time of 1:35.16, just edging out runner-up Elizabethton (credited with the same time in a photo finish).
  • Olivia Burroughs topped all competitors as No. 1 in the Discus, No. 1 in the Pole Vault, No. 8 in the Long Jump and No. 9 in the Shot Put.
  • Junior Will Bradbury (4:16.74) was just 7/100ths of a second behind Abingdon senior Rives Boltwood (4:16.67) in the Men’s 1600 Meters.
  • In the 4×200 Relay, Watauga’s team of Sienna Johnson, Olivia Kop, Kaitlyn Darner, and Mackenzy Cheek crossed the finish line in the No. 3 spot.
  • The Men’s 4×400 team of Jakob Crosswell, Alex Gremmell, Nyle Peays, and Curtis Sevensky was the No. 3 finisher
  • Lilly Stough, Kaitlyn Darner, Sadie Buchanan, and Ava Doty comprised the Watauga 4×400 Relay team that took No. 3.
