    Jerry William Wilson, 78

    Jerry William Wilson, age 78, of Willy Austin Road, Blowing Rock, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

    Born September 7, 1945 in Watauga County, he was a son of Claude and Frances Gragg Wilson.  Jerry was a member of Boone Baptist Church.  He proudly served in the US Army and the North Carolina National Guard during Vietnam and Desert. Storm.  Jerry was a life member of the NC National Guard, a member of the DAV Chapter 90 and a member of the VFW Post 7031 where he served the position of past commander.  He also retired from the town of Boone and served as a volunteer for the Boone Fire Department.

     

    Jerry is survived by wife of 47 years, Patsy Bowman Wilson; Daughter, Jenny Wilson of Blowing Rock and son, William Dexter Wilson of Ohio; grandchildren, Jayden Stirton, Kenzie Isaacs and Logan Ray Isaacs, all of Blowing Rock; brother, Ronald Wilson and wife, Linda, of Mountain City, TN; sisters, Lois Jestes of North Wilkesboro, Lena Combs of Vilas, Elizabeth Carter and husband, Mike, of Boone, and Blanche Jones of North Wilkesboro; and brother-in-law, Bill Bowman of Sparta.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Ray Wilson; sister, Hazel Huffman; brothers, Clarence and Earl Wilson; father and mother-in-law, Marvin Hal and Mabel Bowman; half-sister, Zola Corser and half-brothers, Norman and Homer Wilson.

    Funeral services for Jerry Wilson will be conducted Monday afternoon, October 16th, 2023 at 2 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Kenny Newberry and Rev. Bill McGuire.  The family will receive friends from noon until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes.  Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 and DAV Chapter 90 will follow at the Lower Beaver Dam Cemetery.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the family to assist with expenses.
