Blowing Rock News was launched in August 2010, to capture the “heart” of the life and times of Blowing Rock and its surrounding communities. In addition, to local government, business trends, special events and cultural features coverage, including thought-provoking opinion pieces, Blowing Rock News content features unparalleled, high quality images in almost every story. We pride ourselves in comprehensive Sports coverage, bringing the same level of high quality where possible to every level, whether middle school, high school, college, professional or recreational.
We’ve raised our profile well beyond Blowing Rock.
Because of our demonstrated commitment to high quality coverage, we have been honored to receive reporter and photography credentials for a range of competitions. We were there when Blowing Rock had six athletes qualified to compete in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials for the Men’s and Women’s Marathon in Los Angeles, when no other regional media outlet was there. Were there at Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco when no other High Country media outlet was represented. We’ve been to ACC Football Championships, International Champions Cup (international soccer), CONCACAF Gold Cup (international soccer), Belk Bowl, Camellia Bowl, NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships, NCAA Division II National Championships, and more. We have season-long credentials for the Carolina Panthers for all home games and have had representatives for both reporting and photography at away games in Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Seattle. We have season-long credentials for reporter and photographer for UNC-Charlotte football and basketball, as well as for all sports in which Appalachian State University competes. In covering the Mountaineers, we have been to University of Michigan, University of Georgia, University of Tennessee, Clemson University, East Carolina University and Virginia Tech University, among others.
Blowing Rock News was founded by David Rogers, Editor and Publisher, who launched as a digital-only publication after identifying a market void in hyper-local news and information. He retired from a 37-year career in the financial services industry, where his most significant role was as an institutional equity research professional specializing in the “discovery” of small cap and micro cap companies with disruptive technologies at an early stage of their corporate development. His institutional customers included many of the largest money management and mutual fund companies in the world.
Stay tuned, to see how the Blowing Rock News growth story develops into something more in the years ahead.
