Trew, Hill Recognized as Blowing Rock School “Students of the Month”

By David Rogers. April 13, 2015. BLOWING ROCK, NC — Eighth grade students Isabelle Trew and Jo Hill both confessed surprise in being selected as April’s “Students of the Month,” but admitted it was a nice honor to be recognized for their good grades and citizenship. To commemorate their awards, the Blowing Rock School students were presented certificates of achievement at Monday’s regular lunch meeting of The Rotary Club of Blowing Rock in Chetola’s Evergreen Room.

Jo Hill is the daughter of Blowing Rock dentist Dr. Adam Hill and graphic designer Leslie Temple. She disclosed to Blowing Rock News that she’d like to be a journalist one day, especially in a role where she might travel around the world. If able to choose between war correspondent in the Middle East or a travel reporter for National Geographic, Ms. Hill shyly smiled and said, “Travel reporter. It would be fun to travel everywhere, report on what is happening and take pictures and stuff.” She said that her interests outside of school include playing soccer and piano, and in the wintertime, skiing.

Isabelle Trew wants to be an author, specializing in books for Young Adults. “Think ‘Harry Potter’,” she instructed Blowing Rock News. “Either fantasy or realistic fiction.” As for outside interests, Ms. Trew said, “I’m also on the ski team, and I play the flute. I also really like reading.” Isabelle is the daughter of Blowing Rock School 5th grade teacher, Susan Trew.

Neither have an idea of where they might end up going to college — but both admitted that “playing hooky” from school for a couple of hours (with their parents and Principal Patrick Sukow) and getting to have lunch with all of the Rotarians was a special experience.

The awards presentation ceremony was conducted in front of the full Rotary club membership and guests by President Elect Basil Kuzyzsyn.
