By David Rogers. September 21, 2016. BLOWING ROCK, NC — Put the music — and the “acts” — with the pictures. High Country residents and visitors have one more chance to take in “Groovy Nights,” the performance of the year going Friday, September 23rd, 7:30 pm at Blowing Rock Country Club.
Blowing Rock News was there Tuesday, capturing a few “images for the ages.”
One longtime BRCC member who watched the show was overheard saying afterwards, “You know, these folks work so hard at these productions and so many of these acts are spot-on creative. I can’t decide if I had a favorite or not, they were all so entertaining. The Bruno Mars ‘Uptown Funk’ had a lot of energy – some great moves! And what’s not fun about John Weems doing ‘Tequila, Shiela?’ Brenda and John Speckmann as Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta were a blast. The whole show was good for a lot of grins, clapping hands, and tapping feet!”
“Groovy Nights” is the final phase of Community Foundation Days, with all proceeds going to benefit Blowing Rock Community Foundation (BRCF), which each year the all-volunteer non-profit foundation funds a number of college scholarships for Blowing Rock students and grants to area non-profit agencies. Currently, 23 Blowing Rock area students are receiving scholarship aid from BRCF. In most cases, the students receive 4-year scholarship assistance to the university, community college or technical institute of their choice.
