Parkway rallies past Hardin Park, 27-18

By David Rogers. January 31, 2019. BOONE, NC — Hardin Park clung to a slim one-point lead (14-13) at intermission of Thursday night’s semifinal in the Watauga middle school girls basketball tournament, but Parkway saved their best for last to rally past the Eagles, 27-18.

A quartet of Parkway players came out of the locker room at halftime and put points on the board in the breakthrough third quarter, including Brooke Scheffler and Caroline Farthing with three points apiece, as well as Charlotte Torgerson and Faith Watson with two points each.

But arguably the most impressive thing about Parkway’s third quarter was a defensive effort that completely shut out Hardin Park in the period and allowed only four more points in the final stanza.

Farthing tallied a game-high nine points on the night, while Scheffler and Watson recorded six each.  Kenzie Baldwin shot a team-high eight points, almost half of her team’s total offense.

Parkway now advances to play Blowing Rock in the championship final at 5:30 pm at Watauga High School on Monday, February 4.
