By David Rogers. July 18, 2019. BLOWING ROCK, NC — With just one more day remaining in the filing period to become a candidate for elective office in Watauga County municipalities, Blowing Rock’s race for the two open seats on the Board of Commissioners is getting more competitive.

So far, only incumbent Charlie Sellers has filed to run for Mayor, but the other Town Council race, for two open commissioners’s seats, got more interesting this week with filings by former commissioner Ray Pickett and incumbent Jim Steele. Last week’s earlier filings included incumbent Albert Yount and local architect David Harwood, who has served as the chairman of the Blowing Rock Planning Board for the last few years.

While other names have been rumored to be filing for both the mayor and the commissioners’ vacancies, they have yet to file and only have one more day to do so. The filing deadline is noon on Friday, July 19th.
