By David Rogers. December 11, 2016. BOONE, NC — It was one of those “That’s why they play the whole game” moments.  Visiting Montreat jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first minutes of play, but host Appalachian State went on a 17-1 run to take command of what would end up as a 116-57 runaway.

Now 3-5, the Mountaineers took advantage of a good night for shooting, hitting 60.6% of their shots from the floor. Sophomore guard Ronshad Shabazz shot a game-high 17 points, but was joined by five teammates in posting double figures against the outmanned Cavaliers. The supporting quintet included forward Griffin Kinney (11), as well as Matt O’Boyle, Bennett Holley, Craig Hinton, and Isaac Johnson, each with 10.

Can you tell this guy to find his own ball? This one’s mine!

Freshman 7-footer Jake Wilson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and slapped away six block in a reserve role.

Appalachian returns to the court on Thursday, December 15th in Raleigh, facing North Carolina State. The 116-point scoring outburst was the second-highest point total of the season recorded by the Mountaineers, just shy of their 119-51 win over Warren Wilson College on November 17th.
