Hit & run driver identified, turns self in

NEWTON, NC – In reference to a fatal hit & run collision that occurred on I-40 in Iredell County on Tuesday, 7 January, the NC State Highway Patrol has been able to identify the driver and locate the vehicle.

Earle Vinson Blanton, 71, of Claremont, turned himself in to Troopers at the highway patrol office in Statesville on Thursday afternoon.  A 1984 Chevrolet pickup has been located and secured by investigators.  Charges are pending further investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office.

By sharing information concerning the collision, media outlets assisted with locating the driver in a timely manner.  Blanton contacted the highway patrol after a family member saw a media report.
