BRYP Contradance @ BRAHM
June 5, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Blowing Rock Young Professionals is a monthly young professionals group run by the Blowing Rock Chamber. Each month, local professionals between the age of 21 and 45 meet at the Blowing Rock Alehouse to network, imbibe and get to know each other a little better. Aimed to be a resource for both professional and personal community for those working in Blowing Rock, the group welcomes participants across the High Country to come out, have a beer and get to know your colleagues.
On Monday, June 5, 2017, BRAHM is excited to be hosting the BRYP Meetup & Contradance. Sponsored by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, members of the BRYP will be able to catch up with friends and coworkers while also participating in a lively contradance. For those unfamiliar, contradance is a style of folk dance similar to square dancing set to the backdrop of Scotch-Irish inspired instrumental tunes. With origins rooted English, Scottish, French and African traditions, contradance is a truly American folk custom.
The music for the evening will be provided by Bob Kogut and his company of fellow musicians. In conjunction with Bob Kogut & Friends, Roberta Kogut will be the caller for the evening to lead participants through the steps and formations. Never contradanced before? No worries! No experience required as Roberta provides a short lesson and demo of the basic steps before each set. Please join us for an evening of community and fun, snacks and dancing at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum.
A little bit about the band…
Bob Kogut is a renowned violin maker based out of Lenoir, NC. His band—Bob Kogut & Friends—includes himself, Bill Helms, Judge Becca Eggers-Gryder (District Court judge in Boone) and his wife Roberta Kogut serves as the caller and “instructor” for the pre-set basic lesson. Their motto is, “If you can walk, you can Contra Dance.”
