By David Rogers. January 9, 2017. BLOWING ROCK, NC — Caroline Burt was recognized on Monday as Blowing Rock’s “Student of the Month” for January 2017 at the regular weekly meeting of The Rotary Club of Blowing Rock at Chetola Mountain Resort.

Young Ms. Burt was joined at the Rotary luncheon by her mother and father, Cele and Travis Burt.  Mrs. Burt described her 8th grader at Blowing Rock School as enjoying sports, but has given up playing basketball for the school team to concentrate more on her academic studies.  She told Rotarians that Caroline hasn’t really decided on a career path or where she might go to school after attending Watauga High School, but that she does have a strong interest in graphic design.

Some readers may remember Ms. Burt.  As a 6th grader in the spring 2015, she was one of three winners of a Blowing Rock News-sponsored essay contest about basketball, with the winners earning scholarships to attend an Appalachian State University-hosted girls basketball camp conducted by the Mountaineer coaches and players.
