By David Rogers. June 4, 2018. BLOWING ROCK, NC — High Country residents and visitors alike rejoiced this past weekend as the Linn Cove Viaduct reopened after three months of closure as part of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s “pavement preservation” program in North Carolina.

The Viaduct project began in March 2018.  After capturing the image used above, Jim McDowell, owner of Mountainaire Inn & Log Cabins and a member of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee observed to Blowing Rock News, “We are fortunate to live, work and play in such close proximity to one of America’s most incredible and most visited national parks, the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Having the viaduct around Grandfather Mountain so well maintained is a welcome service to our community and the businesses in this region that depend on tourism, and it is especially important as we get into the heart of the summer vacation season.”

The Linn Cove Viaduct reopened late Friday.
