By David Rogers. September 15, 2015. BLOWING ROCK, NC — Sometimes folks in the background, so to speak, are overlooked — but it is hard to overlook Blowing Rock School custodian, Lloyd Buckner. Any time there is something going on at school, he is ever-present, and his contributions to the students of Blowing Rock received county-wide recognition Monday night at the regular meeting of the Watauga County Schools Board of Education.

Whether for a basketball game, PTO event, working on the new playground, or just a regular school day, Mr. Buckner seems to always be there for the students and their parents. Watauga County Schools Public Information Director Marshall Ashcraft reported to Blowing Rock News today that on Monday night, “…a sizable contingent of Blowing Rock School personnel…” were there, at the School Board meeting, for him when Dr. Scott Elliott, Superintendent of Schools, presented Buckner with the “Servant’s Heart Award.”
“This award,” noted Dr. Elliott, “is given to (school district) employees who exceed expectations in regard to hard work, their dedication to a job well done, and showing a big heart in their concern for students and colleagues.”
Principal Patrick Sukow added, “Teachers and students have a right to walk into a building that is clean and comfortable. They get that at Blowing Rock School thanks to the work of Lloyd Buckner and his fellow custodian, Hannah Rink. Lloyd treats the school as his home away from home, and we are very proud of him.”
