By David Rogers. January 9, 2019. BLOWING ROCK, NC – Capitalizing on a size advantage, tenacious defense, and strong offensive production from Wyatt Kohout (game high 17 points) and Nick Cotillo (8), the Rockets of Blowing Rock blasted by visiting Parkway Wednesday night, 40-24.

Two 3-pointers by Cutillo in the second quarter broke open a tight game, enabling host Blowing Rock to establish offensive momentum and take an 18-13 lead into intermission.

The Rockets’ pestering defense installed by head coach Todd Hartley and assistant coach Caleb Bryson proved especially effective in the third quarter when Blowing Rock limited Parkway to just a single basket while pouring in 11 of their own in the 6-minute quarter.

Blowing Rock’s taller lineup was able to dominate inside the paint, but did a lot of its momentum-building damage from long distance. Besides Cotillo’s missiles from outside the arc, the Rockets also got 3-pointers from Will Kirkland and Brett Ricks.

The win gives Blowing Rock (7-3) sole possession of third place in the Watauga Middle School standings, behind undefeated Hardin Park (10-0) and Valle Crucis (8-2), just ahead of Green Valley (6-4).

The Rockets have four more games left in the regular season, including a visit to Cove Creek on Thursday (January 10th), with a 5:00 pm scheduled tipoff. Then they host Valle Crucis on Monday (January 14th) before going on the road to finish the season, at Bethel (3-7) on January 16th and at Green Valley on January 17th.
