Special Report to Blowing Rock News from Watauga County Sheriff’s Office. August 23, 2015. BOONE, NC — Christopher Baird, 28, of Watauga County, was given a sentence of fifty-four to seventy-seven months in a plea deal stemming from charges earlier this year.
Baird was sentenced in Watauga County Court in reference to his April 20th, 2015, charges for Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine.
Baird was charged after a joint operation between the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, NC DPS Probation and Parole, US Marshals Service, ASU PD, Boone PD and the NC SBI. During the operation officers located a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory at the residence he shared with his grandmother and uncle. Neither were charged regarding this incident.
Also charged from this incident was Leighkatherine Mina, 28, of the residence. Mina was given a probationary sentence for her participation.
Before this arrest Baird was on Probation for Possession/Distribution of Methamphetamine Precursors. His probation stemmed from numerous methamphetamine related charges, to include Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of Precursor Chemicals and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Prior to this instance, another clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was located at the residence. The suspect charged and convicted in that incident was Charles Kevin Baird, Chris Baird’s father. He received a sentence of more than nine years for Manufacturing Methamphetamine and currently incarcerated at the Alexander Correctional Facility in Alexander County, NC.
