By David Rogers. October 17, 2014. BOONE, NC — Louisiana-Lafayette fired the opening salvo in taking the first set 25-21 Friday evening, but Appalachian State quickly fired back, sweeping the next three hard-fought sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) en route to a 3-1 volleyball victory at the Holmes Convocation Center.

Supported by 43 assists from designated setter Paige Brown, junior outside hitter Emily Corrigan led the App State attack with 21 kills. Also in double figures for the Mountaineers: senior middle blocker Lauren Gray and senior outside hitter Jacqui Spurgeon each registered 11 kills.
While the Mountaineers seemed to focus their attacks through Corrigan, the Ragin’ Cajuns spread things out a little more with five players in double figures in kills — almost facilitated by setter Andrea Hole, who accounted for a match-high 52 assists.
Appalachian returns to action on Sunday in a 2:00 pm encounter with Louisiana-Monroe.
