ACC Garners Top 3 Seeds in NCAA D-1 Men’s Lacrosse Tourney

By David Rogers. May 4, 2015. GREENSBORO, NC — If anyone had any questions about which collegiate athletic conference dominates men’s lacrosse in the United States, they were answered on Sunday.

Notre Dame, Syracuse and North Carolina were awarded the top three seeds, respectively, in the field of 18 competing schools named to the 1015 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship announced Sunday evening. The Atlantic Coast Conference has five conference member schools with men’s lacrosse programs — and all five made the field of 18, including #5 seed Duke and #7 seed Virginia.

According to the NCAA information posted on its website, the top 14 seeded teams are placed in the championship bracket, and the remaining four teams compete for a chance to be included in the Round of 16. The “play-in” games will take place on Wednesday (May 6), with High Point University travelling to Towson University and Marist College hosting Bryant University.

The top seeds include:

  1. Notre Dame (At Large)
  2. Syracuse (ACC Automatic Qualifier)
  3. North Carolina (At Large)
  4. Denver (Big East Conference Automatic Qualifier)
  5. Duke (At Large)
  6. Maryland (At Large)
  7. Virginia (At Large)
  8. Cornell (At Large)

The remaining six selections include:

  • Brown University (At Large)
  • Johns Hopkins University (Big 10 Conference Automatic Qualifier)
  • University of Albany (American East Conference Automatic Qualifier
  • Ohio State University (At Large)
  • Yale University (Ivy League Automatic Qualifier)
  • Colgate University (Patriot League Automatic Qualifier)

  • Towson University (Colonial Athletic Conference Automatic Qualifier)
  • Marist College (Metro Atlantic Conference Automatic Qualifier)
  • Bryant University (Northeast Conference Automatic Qualifier)
