By David Rogers. May 11, 2020. BLOWING ROCK, NC — Blowing Rock’s Town Council will experience its second consecutive remote/virtual session on Tuesday, May 12th. Where the April meeting was more of a tryout for the virtual format, this month the Board of Commissioners and Mayor will get down to business.

There is one public hearing scheduled, a revision of Speckled Trout’s 2018 CUP. After renovations were completed for the interior, now the owners are looking to make improvements on the outside. Their primary focus is a relatively small expansion to their outdoor seating capacity. While the project received the blessing of the Blowing Rock Planning Board (on April 23, 2020, with a firm 6:12 roof pitch requirement for the expanded deck that will replace an awning), it will require the Board’s granting a variance as the new deck would encroach about three feet into the Town Code-mandated 15-foot setback from the proposed sidewalk along Main Street and U.S. 221.

The proposed deck expansion’s southeast corner would intrude slightly into the normally required setback.

In other business, Blowing Rock Art & History Museum seeks approval to exhibit an outdoor sculpture as part of the 34th Outdoor Rosen Sculpture Exhibition.

Finally, the Council will hear a report from the Valley Blvd. Ad Hoc “Visioning” Committee.
