Watauga Volleyball Earns Double Win On Saturday

By David Rogers. September 9, 2017. BOONE, NC — A broad team effort helped host Watauga in a “Tri-Match” on Saturday, getting by Fred T. Foard, 3-1 (25-10, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19), before trading volleys — and sets — with a determined Hough (Cornelius, NC), before pulling out a 3-2 win (25-20, 12-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-9).

Against Foard in the first morning match, the Pioneers handily won the first set, but Foard seemed to regroup. The Tigers rallied to give Watauga a scare in the second set, then took the third set in overtime before finally succumbing to the Pioneers in the fourth and final set.

Watauga played back-to-back matches, next facing Hough High School, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District contender based in Cornelius. Although the Pioneers took the opening set, the Huskies dominated in the second and evened things up with another win in the fourth set before Watauga won the day in taking the decisive fifth set.
