Power forward Maddy Watson scored a game-high 15 points Monday night to lead the Blowing Rock girls basketball team to a convincing win over the Golden Eagles, 32-26, in front of a jam-packed crowd filling Blowing Rock School’s gymnasium.
A pair of seventh graders, guard Farrah Cole and forward Kylee Calvo accounted for the rest of the Rockets’ scoring.
Hardin Park led at the end of the first period (6-4) and at intermission (12-10) in this tightly contested game, but the Rockets outscored their Boone-based counterparts 10-6 in the third period, then took control with a 12-8 performance in the final stanza.
The Rockets’ pressing, disruptive defensive scheme frustrated the Golden Eagles, forcing turnover after turnover in lost possesions and bad passes.
