Special Report to Blowing Rock News from App State Sports. July 6, 2017. BOONE, NC — The Southern Conference announced on Thursday that 12 Appalachian State University wrestling student-athletes were named to the conference’s Academic Honor Roll for the 2016-17 season.
To be eligible for the honor roll, a student-athlete who participates in varsity sports must post a 3.0 GPA or higher, be eligible the entire academic year and be members of the final squad lists.
In addition to earning sports on the honor roll, graduate Vito Pasone (3.90 – Higher Education – Teaching) and David Peters-Logue (3.90 – Sustainable Technology) received Commissioner’s Medals for posting a GPA of 3.80 or higher.
SoCon Wrestler of the Year Denzel Dejournette earned yet another honor to wrap up his illustrious career, finishing with a 3.25 GPA in the classroom while majoring in Exercise Science.
In addition to Peters-Logue, two more juniors appear on the honor roll including Forrest Przybysz (3.79 – Economics) and Taylor Jackson (3.04 – Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture). Sophomore Miller Clark earned a nod on the list after finishing the academic year with a 3.47 GPA while majoring in accounting.
Six freshmen started their App careers with honor roll appearances, as Christian Beach (3.55 – Marketing), Thomas Flitz (3.00 – Health and Physical Education), Carl Guess (3.58 – History Education), Gavin Londoff (3.28 – Elementary Education), Demazio Samuel (3.00 – Management) and Thierry Washington (3.04 – Architectural Technology and Design) rounded out the list for App State.
The academic awards are yet another jewel in the crown of an impressive 2016-17 season for App Wrestling, as the team won the SoCon regular season championship, sent four to the NCAA Championships, and saw Denzel Dejournette earn All-American honors.
