By David Rogers. March 6, 2018. NEW ORLEANS, LA — Sophomore post player Bayley Plummer had a double-double — in the FIRST HALF — and finished Tuesday’s first round Sun Belt Conference game with 19 rebounds and 18 points to lead Appalachian State over Arkansas State, 79-68.
Plummer wasn’t the only Mountaineer star, however, as freshman guard LaPresha Stanley poured in a game-high 27 points, and the High Country’s dynamic duo was joined in double figures by freshman guard Tierra Wilson’s 16 points and sophomore guard Nicola Mathews’ 12.
Plummer played the entire 40 minutes, which is remarkable for a post player. Maybe after receiving only third team all-Sun Belt recognition last week even after leading the league in rebounds by a wide margin and ranking fifth in blocked shots, the 6-4 sophomore alum from East Davidson had something to prove. She added four assists, three steals and five blocked shots to her scoring line vs. Arkansas State.
Appalachian now advances to Thursday’s next challenge in the Sun Belt tourney, a second round encounter against top-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock.
