Special Report to Blowing Rock News. By Joey Jones. November 16, 2017. BOONE, NC — The Appalachian State University athletics department has reached an agreement with IMG College that will extend its multimedia rights partnership through 2027.
Since 2008, IMG College, a leading collegiate sports marketing company, has coordinated multimedia rights for App State Athletics, which include corporate sponsorships, signage, at-event hospitality, radio and television programming, digital advertising, gameday publications, official athletics newspaper and merchandising opportunities.
As part of the 10-year agreement, IMG College is making a significant investment in technology enhancements for Kidd Brewer Stadium and Holmes Convocation Center, including the new video displays installed this summer that are among the most impressive in college sports.
The new agreement extends App State and IMG College’s partnership for five more years, as the previous agreement was slated through 2022.
“We are excited to extend this agreement with a true partner in IMG College,” App State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin said. “We have a great history with IMG at Appalachian and look forward to working together for the next decade. This agreement is a reflection of the growth of Appalachian Athletics and will help us further enhance the opportunities for success afforded to our student-athletes and a first-class gameday experience for the Mountaineer faithful.”
“We are thrilled to announce an extension of our relationship with App State,” said Tim Pernetti, President, IMG College. “We remain committed to providing strategic opportunities for Mountaineer Athletics that enhance the student-athlete and fan experiences.”
App State’s relationship with IMG College has helped the athletics department increase revenue for operating and continue to attract record-breaking football crowds at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The school’s all-time attendance record of 35,126 was set at the Sept. 23 against Wake Forest, breaking the previous record of 34,658 established last year in a game vs. the Miami Hurricanes. For the second straight year, App leads the Sun Belt in average home attendance and ranks top 15 among Group of Five schools.
